Dear Me At Fifteen – Poetry Review

3 Comments on Dear Me At Fifteen – Poetry Review

April was National Poetry Month and I spoiled myself with a few new poetry collections for my birthday! Which means I’ve been reading a lot of poetry lately. I love the way that poetry moves me. It’s inspiring and emotional and every other emotion wrapped up into a small collection. It’s what makes me like poetry so much. My favorite poetry collection being I Am More Than A Daydream by Jennae Cecelia.

Today, I’m reviewing a collection by one of my favorite self-published poets, Jennae Cecelia. Unlike her other work, Dear Me At Fifteen is a unique poetry collection. It’s a combination poetry and self-help journal. It’s definitely different, but in a good way!

Let’s not waste anymore time getting to today’s review!

Review

There is always something to love about Jennae Cecelia’s work. And Dear Me At Fifteen is no different.

The style of Dear Me At Fifteen is unique. Half of the book is hand drawn poems. The other half is journal pages with a specific topic based on the poem. My problem with the hand-drawn poems comes down to the fact that some are crooked which made some poems difficult to read. There are also spelling errors in the journal topics. I love the unique style for this collection even though there are a few issues.

There are a lot of relatable elements in Dear Me At Fifteen. A major topic in this poetry collection is self-love. As I read, I felt a deeper connection within me. This kept me reading until the very last page and answering each journal entry. Other topics that are prominent are: anxiety and depression.

Throughout my reading of Dear Me At Fifteen, I felt myself loving who I am more and more. Every time I read Jennae Cecelia’s work I feel empowered to accomplish anything I set my mind to. It’s such an amazing feeling and this book delivered once again.

Self-Expression Journal

I love how not only is this a poetry collection, but also a self-expression journal. Being able to put yourself into the book and take the time to think about your own experiences and goals in life is so unique and worth buying this book for!
