Every now and then, a writer pops out at me and makes me want to read their work. This is how it was when I first found Xavier Words on Instagram. The poetry is moving and motivational. That was when I found out that Xavier Words published a poetry collection called Thank U, which I reviewed in this post. So when I found out that another new poetry collection was going to be released called Aesthetics I couldn’t have been happier!

As I read Aesthetics, I felt something different about the writing than I did when I read Thank U. However, there is still something enjoyable about this poetry collection.
Aesthetics is written in free verse. Many of the poems are short. I was able to read the entire collection in under an hour. There are some poems that have taglines which many seem unnecessary for the poems. However, this didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the collection.
Topics: love, heartbreak, the beauty of women, self-love, healing.
I think these poems are relatable. The topics discussed are shown in a light that many don’t take the time to show. I like the raw message each poem possesses. As I read, I felt a connection to the poems. There are a few times that it feels like a motivational speaker has taken over and is ranting which I didn’t enjoy. But the overall collection kept me coming back for more.
If there is one thing I love about poetry is when a poet can project their emotions into the writing. That’s exactly what Xavier Words does in this collection. I can feel the yearning of emotion in each poem.
Un-Bonus
While I raved about the drawings in Thank U, the ones in Aesthetics are something I could do without. There are one or two that worked, but the rest feel disjointed from the poems they were drawn for.
Aesthetics is a relatable poetry collection from Xavier Words. There is something raw about the writing that makes me want more. The random taglines and some of the drawings take away from the experience, but I still feel like this poetry collection is worth the read. If you’re looking for a poetry collection that makes you feel good, then I recommend Aesthetics.

It’s been great getting back into poetry these last few months. And I have many more poetry collections that I’ve spoiled myself with for my birthday that I can’t wait to read and review!

Lovely review! Sounds like I’d enjoy this books.
I hope you do pick this one up! 😊
I’m not really a poetry reader. I don’t feel much but a pleasantness when I read a poem. It’s great that you enjoyed this so much. ❤️
I understand, sometimes poetry that speaks to you on a different level is harder than it sounds. Thanks for commenting!
