If you’ve ever lost someone you’ve loved very much then this collection is for you. From the first poem, you’re on a journey through grief and guilt that comes from such a vulnerable place. Heavy Ash is a strong poetry collection that lets you in and lets you know you’re not alone.
KAM uses a variety of poetry styles in Heavy Ash. Different from most other free verse poetry, it includes rhyming stanzas and longer story-telling poems. I like this variety as it uniquely conveys each poem’s message.
As I’ve mentioned before, if you’ve lost someone you were close to in your life then this collection is extremely relatable. Experiencing this type of grief affects you so much. Each poem in this collection does a fantastic job of sharing the vulnerability of those emotions.
Moving onto the emotional aspect of this poetry collection. If I haven’t made it clear already, Heavy Ash does a fantastic job of stringing emotions through every poem. It is such a strong feeling that if you have never experienced the loss of a loved one, you may even be able to relate.
There is a poem that is written in Spanish in this collection. It is a beautiful poem if you can read or translate the Spanish. However, it pulls you out of the collection momentarily for that one poem.
Heavy Ash is such a uniquely written poetry collection depicting death and grief. The style is a nice mix of free verse and other poetry styles. I love the deep emotions that are throughout every poem in this collection. If you’ve ever lost someone and felt alone this poetry collection shows that you’re not alone in your grief. I look forward to reading future works by KAM.
Thank you again KAM for the copy of Heavy Ash. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
