Happy 2024! I know we’re already two weeks into the year, but this is my first post of the year. Though my new year didn’t start out the best. My family and I have all been sick for the past week. We’re on the mend now, and I finally feel like I’m able to write this post for you all to enjoy. I decided to start this year off on a fun note, so we’re kicking off the year with a contemporary creative writing prompt.
If you’re just joining Bound to Writing, my name is Jennifer Leigh, I’m a YA indie author with 4 published books. You can find my books listed here. I love to share my writing adventures as I work toward publishing my next book and providing resources along the way. I also love challenging myself with writing prompts, so much so, that I have a writing prompt generator on my site. Which, of course, you can find right on the Writing Prompt page under Resources.
The point of the creative writing prompt is to get you into the groove of writing again. No need to worry about word count or if this will make its way into a full length novel. It’s for fun. I aim for writing around 500 words or approximately one scene of a story. But it’s your writing and you can write your own rules. The goal is to get those creative juices flowing.
Let me introduce to you my prompt for today’s post:
Genre: Contemporary
Setting: Dollhouse
Style: Verse
Did I randomly generate until I received a prompt I liked? Of course! But I’m honestly excited to see how this will play out.
Now that I’ve taken some time to write, I’m ready to share. Are you ready?
I think this turned out pretty good. It’s definitely not something I would usually write, but I love how it all came to life. Did you catch the unmentioned character? (I’d love to know your guesses on who it is!)
What will your next writing prompt be? Check out the Writing Prompts on Bound to Writing to see what’s next for you.
I look forward to sharing more writing prompts with you as the year goes on! And if you like these posts, please be sure to leave a like below so I know this is the content you’d like to see more of. Happy New Year and talk to you soon!
What was your favorite part of the scene? Do you think this should be made into a full length novel? Let’s chat in the comments below!

Hi, I can’t see the link to your story.
Hi, it takes a second to load onto the page. It’s a flip through file, not an external link. I hope that helps and you enjoy the story 🙂
