You’ve put in so much work into your manuscript. Edits, print outs, and everything in between. Now you’re ready for the next step. One that feels so satisfying. The proof copy.
So what is a proof copy? Where do you get one? Let me explain.
What is a Proof Copy?
Think of all the times you’ve printed out your book. Did you ever get a feel of the actual size of it in book form? Probably not. That is what a proof copy is for. You’ll be able to select the size you plan on publishing your book and get a copy published for you to hold.
Why Should I Get One?
There are many reasons you may want to get a proof copy of your book. I’ll share five.
- You get to hold a physical copy of your book in your hand.
- You’ll be able to do a readthrough with a real book.
- You can check for formatting errors.
- You can ensure the size of the book is correct.
- It means you’re almost to the finish line.
Where Can I Get One?
Many self publishers offer a proof copy option. You’ll want to set up your book’s information and before hitting publish, there will be an option for a proof copy. You want to select that NOT publish. This will allow you to order the book with the details you submitted.
Getting a proof copy is an exciting step in the publishing journey. You may not be publishing yet, but you are close. You can take this momentous occasion to celebrate! You have your book in print!!
Then it’s time to get back to work so that you can finally hit the publish button. That way others can hit the buy button and get a copy for their bookshelves.
I hope you’ve found this post to be helpful as you take on your publishing journey. I know it can be a lot to tackle whether it’s you first or thirtieth published book, but there is always someone there to help you along the way.
Happy Writing!
