Welcome back to another installment of the Book Marketing Planner guide. Here is where I walk you through my comprehensive pre-publication marketing workbook titled, the Book Marketing Planner. Today’s topic is about running a promotional giveaway.
Before you publish your book, this workbook will guide you on all things marketing. From research and pricing, to formatting and advertising. This guide is perfect for the book that hasn’t been released. The Book Marketing Planner is available in Paperback on Amazon and as a Digital Download in the Bound to Writing Shop.
Last month we discussed Promoting with Discounts. This month we will be discussing Promoting with Giveaways. I have a similar post you can check out titled 4 Steps to Run Book Giveaways. Go ahead and check it out for even more giveaway information.
What will be the Prize?
You will need to consider what you want the prize to be for your giveaway. Consider your audience and what they would want to enter to win. For many readers, a physical book is a good giveaway option.
Other Options:
eBook of your book
Collection of your books
Books by you and another author (joint giveaway)
Book Swag
Giftcard (not recommended)
+ more
Where Will I Run the Promotional Giveaway
There are two major places to run your giveaway:
Blog
Social Media
You will want to select the platform where your audience is more likely to find your giveaway.
Who is Eligible to Enter
You’ll want to determine who is eligible to enter your giveaway. Depending on the type of giveaway prize you will want to consider eligibility. For example, if you want to giveaway a physical book and you’re in the U.S. You will have to consider shipping costs not only to U.S. winners but if you allow international entries, you’ll have to consider international shipping.
Take a look at your budget and your goals when determining who is eligible to enter your giveaway.
How Will the Winner be Chosen
You will want to have a plan in place for when the giveaway is over. Will you use a random number generator, or put everyone into a form and select a winner that way? You can also use a giveaway site where people would enter the giveaway and the site will provide a random winner from the eligible entries. Whichever method you use, make sure to have a fair method of selecting winners.
I’ll be breaking down some giveaway sites next month, so be sure to check back for that post.
Running a promotional giveaway is a good method of getting people to find your work. If you can get the reach, you may find yourself with several new readers. However, don’t expect a giveaway to be the only answer to gaining readers. There are many deciding factors to getting people to enter your giveaway and sometimes it doesn’t work out. But as with any marketing tactic, you have to try different options to find the one that works for you and your audience.
